Carol Jerwood

Assistant Director

Carol joined the Board as Assistant Education Officer in 1987 and was appointed Assistant Director in 2001. Prior to that she taught briefly at undergraduate level at Sussex University while studying for her DPhil and also taught in adult education.

Carol advises governors and headteachers on admissions, exclusions, complaints and school governance issues; monitors legislative changes and their implications for church schools and advises on amalgamation, the development of new schools and academisation. She oversees the Board’s governor training programme, runs training courses for governors and headteachers and provides briefings for Church schools on key issues.

Carol works closely with the Diocesan Director on the strategic development of the Board and deputises for the Director when required; she represents the SDBE on LA admission forums and the London Co-ordinators of Governor Services group and on national Diocesan networks for admissions and school governance.
