The Bishop of Southwark’s Lent Call 2021

In the last year so much has changed and we have all become much more aware of the fragility our lives and our communities. The footballer, Marcus Rashford, has helped to raise everyone’s awareness of the need to ensure that our children are adequately fed during school holidays. But it is not just schoolchildren who are at risk. Whole families are in need of help, as well as couples and individuals. That is why the diocese is focusing the Bishop’s Lent Call this year on food insecurity, both here in the Diocese and in our Link Dioceses.

We hope that you will want to promote the Lent Call materials to your school / college / university community, even though we cannot easily be together in person at this time. The materials contain information on the projects, Reflections and a Lent Call prayer, and some fundraising ideas with which we hope people will wish to engage, as they are able. There are also Collective Worships and Reflections which have been written by us at the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education. We are encouraging people to pray for the projects which we are featuring and, where possible, to give what they can to support the work of ensuring that people have enough to eat.

This year the diocese has taken the decision, because of the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, not to print the Bishop’s Lent Call materials but to produce them only electronically, online. Please consider printing the materials and putting them up in your school, college or university. Throughout Lent, if we remain, at least in part, online it may be that you can recommend them to members of your school / college / university community in any communications you have with them, if and as appropriate, directing them to

Please use the materials in whatever way you can to encourage people to pray for the projects as well as to support them where they can. Thank you.
