Primary Leadership Forum

Deputy Heads, Heads of School and Assistant Headteachers

Date Time
25 November 2022 10.00 - 15.00
22 February 2023 09.30 - 12.00
27 June 2023 13.30 - 15.30

The purpose of the programme is to:

  • develop the leadership skills and expertise of Senior Staff as leaders in church schools  and to  provide opportunities for networking across the boroughs to share good practice in all aspects of school life across our diocesan schools;
  • focus on school effectiveness with key messages from  inspection outcomes and developments in SIAMS and Ofsted;
  • nurture the leadership potential of our Senior Staff as part of our succession planning strategy for future headships.

Each session will begin with a focus on what it means to be a leader in a church school and will include time for reflection and the opportunity to strengthen your own understanding of your role in school.  We will focus on the Church of England’s vision for education, articulated through four basic elements of wisdom, hope, community and dignity. New initiatives will be tabled as requested by the forum. It is hoped that between meetings, senior leaders will network in clusters to extend the work started at the forum and that over time, forum members will shape the agenda of the meetings.

This forum is designed to provide an opportunity for outstanding schools to meet together, consider current best practice and review their self-evaluation to ensure their practice remains ‘cutting edge’ and outstanding.

The forum will be divided into two elements. The first part of each forum is designed to support schools with information on the key elements of the current ‘outstanding’ Ofsted judgement.  The second element will explore an element of best practice from across the Diocese.

Secondary Leadership Network Meetings & School Visits

There is a programme of senior network meetings arranged for secondary schools during the year.  Many of these meetings are jointly run with the London Diocesan Board which allows a broader range of networking opportunities between the schools and academies North and South of the river.  The formal network meetings provide the time for colleagues to discuss topical issues, share good practice and work together in response to new initiatives.

Secondary Headteacher Meetings & School Visits

There will be opportunities for secondary headteachers to visit other SDBE schools to see good practice in action and network. Each of these visits will explore a current school improvement topic in detail, led by the host school. Details about dates and venues will be sent out throughout the year and we encourage every school to send a delegate: deputy headteachers are welcome if the headteacher is unable to attend. You will also be invited to join virtual meetings through an on-line platform and invitations will be sent out prior to these.
